ABOUT THE COMPANY – COMPENSATION FUND

The Compensation Fund, part of the Department of Labour in South Africa, provides compensation to workers injured, diseased or disabled while performing the duties of their employment, as well as for
death from injuries or diseases contracted while working.

ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – FIELDS COVERED

The Compensation Fund will be awarding bursaries in various fields of study – see below for which qualification is covered at various tertiary institutes:
  • University of the Witwatersrand: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal: Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy / Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPhysT)
  • University of Cape Town: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) / Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy
  • Tshwane University of Technology: Bachelor of Technology in Nursing / National Diploma in Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics
  • University of Pretoria: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) / Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPhysT) / Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting Science / Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and Financial Mathematics
  • University of Johannesburg: Bachelor of Science in Information Technology / Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Informatics

MORE ABOUT THE BURSARY PROGRAMME – COVERAGE VALUE, RENEWABILITY & SELECTION

The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses: tuition fees, prescribed textbooks and study materials, meals, accommodation nd a monthly allowance.
Bursaries are renewable each year dependent on students academic performance and availability of funds.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and if you do not receive any feedback by 31 January 2020, please regard your application was unsuccessful.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):
  • South African citizen
  • A dependent of a Compensation Fund pensioner or current Compensation Fund pensioner
  • Between 17 and 25 years old
  • Currently in Matric
  • Have been accepted to study at one of the aforementioned institutes in one of the aforementioned fields of study in 2020
  • *Preference will be given to students with good academic records and those who show potential

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY

Download and complete the Compensation Fund Bursary Application Form (.pdf)
Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are missing, your application be disregarded):
  • ID document/ birth certificate (certified copy)
  • Grade 11 final results (certified copy)
  • Matric June results (certified copy)
  • Proof of acceptance/ preliminary acceptance to study at one of the aforementioned institutes in 2020
  • Parents/ guardians ID documents (certified copies)
  • Proof of residence (certified copy)
